Canal Letting – Sealed proposals will be received at the Canal Office in Tunkhannock, until sunset on Thursday the 22nd day of October, for completing the Section Nov. 134 of the Tunkhannock Line, North Branch Division of the Pennsylvania Canal, plans and specifications of the work will be exhibited by the Engineers on the day of Letting. Married – In this Borough on Tuesday, 13th inst., by the Rev. Bethel CLAXTON, Rev. Alexander SHIRAS, of Beryville, Clark Co., Va., to Miss Frances, eldest daughter of Steuben BUTLER, of the first mentioned place.
Married – In Turbutville, on the 27th ult., by Samuel BARR Esq., Robert GENTRY, of Danville, to Miss Mary HASS, of Pottsgrove.
Married – On Wednesday morning, September 30, at Kingston, by the Rev. SNOWDEN, Henry CLEMONS, of Montrose to Miss Eunice, daughter of Major Oliver HOLME, of the former place.
Died – In this Borough, on the 9th inst., James NESBITT, aged about fifty years. He was buried on Sunday in Plymouth – and his funeral was attended by a large concourse of mourners relatives and friends.
Died – In East Sugarloaf, Butler township, in this county, on Friday the 2nd inst., Emma Maria, only daughter of H. B. YOST, in the second year of her age.
Died – In Kingston, on the 10th inst., Alva C. PHILIPS, Esq., an old and respectable citizen.
Died – In Plymouth, on Monday the 5th inst., George N. DENNIS, in the 25th year of his age.
Died – Was drowned in the North Branch Canal at Nanticoke, on the night of the 15th October inst., Daniel DAVENPORT, Jr., of Plymouth, aged about fifty. He had left some friends about 10 o’clock in the evening to go to his boat – and it is supposed that from the darkness of the night, and the narrowness of the railing on which he walked, that he missed his footing and fell, and in the fall received some injury that incapacitated him from making any successful effort to save himself; some bruises on the nose, face and forehead, confirmed this opinion. He was found in the morning near the shore of the canal, his face resting on the bottom and a little of the top of the head out of water, by his little sons who had slept in the cabin of the boat.

Married – In Lackawanna, Dec. 10, by Alva HEERMANS Esq., Morris H. DAILY, of Providence, to Miss Jane WHITNECK, of the former place.
Married – At Stoddardsville, Luzerne Co., on Monday evening, Dec. 7th, by Rev. John DORRANCE, John BROWN, of White-Haven, to Miss Maria STODDART, of the first mentioned place.
Died – On Wednesday evening last, in this Borough, William, son of the late Judge SCOTT, aged about 29 years.
Sheriff’s Sales to be held, 2nd day of January:
1) Equal undivided third part of land situated on Bartholomew’s Creek north of Tunkhannock Creek, containing five hundred acres, being expressly understood and agreed, the equal undivided third part at the east end of the said tract, only is intended to be mortgaged and conveyed. Seized and taken in execution at the suit of Abner SQUAIR against Stephen SQUAIR.
2) Land situated on Tunkhannock Creek in Tunkhannock township, bounded by Oxbow Creek, Oliver and Samuel STARK, containing one hundred acres., being part of a certain tract of land in the warrantee name of Edward MILNER and part of the real estate of said William MILNER dec’d above named which John DONALDSON and Sarah his wife and the said C. M. DONALDSON by their Attorney in fact, John DONALDSON duly contested by indenture bearing even date herewith granted to Myers SHAW. . Seized and taken in execution at the suit of C. M. DONALDSON trustee of E. MILNER against Nehemiah SHAW.
A Court of Appeal, For the 116th Regiment, will beheld at the House of Col. J. J. Married – In Plymouth, on the 17th ult., by Thos. IRWIN, Esq., Evert BOGARDUS, of Williamsport, Lycoming Co., to Miss Louisa, daughter of Truman ATHERTON, of Plymouth.
Died – In this Borough, on Wednesday, 2 o’clock, A. M., John W. ROBINSON, aged about 62 years.

Died at the residence of his brother, in Jacksonville East Florida, on the 19th Nov., Asa P. GREGORY, junior, son of Samuel GREGORY, Esq., of this county, in the 27th year of his age.
He was a graduate of West Point, and late a Lieut. of the 3rd Artillery of the U. S. Army, which he resigned for the profession of law. On the 29th of Oct., he left Jacksonville in the Steamboat for Black Creek on business. He complained of indisposition, and on the 13th of Nov., he was brought from the steamboat to his brother’s on a litter. He was attended by an army physician at the Creek, but it was feared his case was not properly treated, at the commencement; but after being brought to his brother’s every medical and attention were bestowed, but it was too late. His decease was pronounced to be congestive fever accompanied with a violent hemorrage from the lungs and kidneys. He retained his senses, and bore his illness with resignation, till the 19th ult, when his spirit ascended to the God who gave it. He left an only brother at that place, and doating parents and affectionate sisters, in this place, and a numerous circle of friends to mourn his irreparable loss and untimely death. (Star)
